Required Safety Protocol & Zero-Tolerance Policy

Adherence to all rules is required for a successful surgery.

Required Timeline for Stopping Substances, Supplements, and Other Medications

Your body must be cleared of certain substances, blood thinners and supplements well in advance. Dr. Valdez will determine your personalized stopping timeline—typically a 2 to 6-week window—during your consultation. You must strictly adhere to the specific dates given to you or risk the cancellation of your surgery and lose your non-refundable deposits.

Required Action

You must STOP all forms of tobacco, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and nicotine patches, for the specific period set by Dr. Valdez. Nicotine severely limits blood flow, which dramatically increases the risk of skin necrosis (tissue death) and poor healing.

Discuss your alcohol consumption with Dr. Valdez, you may have to stop all alcohol consumption for the specific period set by Dr. Valdez, which may be 2 weeks before your surgery. Alcohol compromises your liver function and interacts dangerously with anesthesia.

You must STOP all food supplements, vitamins, contraceptives, and any medication not explicitly approved by our office at least 2 to 6 weeks before your surgery. Many supplements can increase surgical bleeding risks. Dr. Valdez will give you personalized instruction on this.

You must STOP all drugs and other toxic substances for the required period. Honesty regarding usage is vital for your safety during anesthesia.

Medical Disclosure and Health Requirements (Must Read Before Travel)

Your responsibility to disclose medical information is continuous up to the moment of surgery. Do not travel without disclosing all relevant health history.

Mandatory Pre-Travel Disclosure

You must notify Dr. Valdez’s office IMMEDIATELY if any of the following situations occur before your travel date:

  • You have any prior surgical or medical procedures, including any that were not previously mentioned to our office.
  • You develop a cold, fever, rash, or any signs of an infection.
  • You experience any symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in close contact with an infected person.
  • You have any new or recent medical diagnoses or changes to your health status.

Risk of In-Cancun Cancellation

  • Cardiology Clearance: Your final cardiology clearance happens after you arrive in Cancun. If you are not cleared by the cardiologist during the pre-operative process, Dr. Valdez cannot proceed with surgery.
  • Consequence: Failure to disclose any relevant medical history before arrival that prevents cardiology clearance or cancels your surgery will result in the loss of a portion of your non-refundable deposit/fees.

Required 7–21+ Day Cancun Restrictions

Your time in Cancun, from the moment you arrive until you depart, must prioritize your health and safe recovery. The restrictions below apply for the entire duration of your trip, encompassing both the immediate pre-surgery period and the days and weeks following your procedure. Disregarding this non-negotiable protocol risks your safety, your surgical results, and could lead to cancellation and loss of non-refundable deposits.

Requirement

ZERO SUNBURN OR TANNING. You must strictly avoid direct sun exposure. Sun-damaged skin is inflamed and makes surgery and proper healing much more difficult.

NO SWIMMING. We know it is tempting but do not enter the ocean, pools, hot tubs. This eliminates the risk of bacterial infection prior to surgery.

NO ALCOHOL. Stop drinking for the entire week leading up to your surgery and during your post-op recovery period.

Prioritize rest and hydration. Avoid all strenuous activity, excursions, heat exposure.

Why it is Non-Negotiable

Non-compliance risks cancellation of your surgery.

Water exposure risks infection.

Alcohol interferes with anesthesia.

Physical stress, dehydration complicates recovery.
