Breast implant removal (Capsulectomy)

This surgical procedure is gaining popularity among a select group of patients. There are several terms used for this surgery;  Implant removal, capsulotomy, capsulectomy, total capsulectomy, and En Bloc capsulectomy. As well as, Explant.

Within this select group of patients;  there are those that have developed a series of symptoms that generally do not find a clear and definite diagnosis and that, have been grouped within a term known as “breast implant disease”(Breast Implant Illness) and in some cases are referred to as, “adjuvant-induced inflammatory / autoimmune syndrome” ( ASIA syndrome).

This surgical procedure consists of removing the breast implant and the capsule that surrounds it as, a single unit. In the vast majority of cases, it is possible to perform this procedure in its entirety, which, is known as, “En Bloc”.  There is a well-established management protocol in place for, these types of procedures.
