If you aren’t satisfied with your nose shape, then it can really bother you on a daily basis. So you might think it’s worth it to spend some money to have it improved through a nose job. That way, you can feel beautiful and confident.
You might already have an idea that surgery isn’t cheap, but you aren’t really sure what to expect. So before you commit to anything, you should educate yourself on potential costs to avoid nasty financial surprises.
In this article, we’ll go over the details of rhinoplasty cost so you can save up accordingly.
How Much Does Rhinoplasty Cost?
In the US, the average nose job cost is $7,637. This amount is for the procedure alone, and doesn’t include other costs such as:
- Medical tests
- Surgeon’s fees
- Anesthesia fees
- Facility fees
- Post-operative care
In addition, the cost can vary depending on where your geographical location. For example, costs are typically higher in major cities like Los Angeles and New York. On the other hand, the rhinoplasty cost in Mexico (and other procedures) is much lower, so you can save money by looking outside of the US.
The surgeon you go to will matter too. Those with a better reputation will typically charge more, as their work is backed by years of experience.
Let’s break down some of the above costs, for surgeries within the US.
Surgeon’s Fees
A surgeon will set their fees according to their experience and time spent on the surgery. These fees will also cover things like employee paychecks and office maintenance.
Surgeon’s fees usually amount to around $10,000.
Anesthesia Fees
The anesthesia fee will depend on which type the surgeon uses. In most cases, surgeons will use general anesthesia, which will cost around $1,500.
Facility Fees
The surgeon will need to use an operating room to perform your surgery, and along with it comes equipment and instruments. Expect the facility fees to be around $1,600, although some can charge as much as $5,000.
Post-Operative Care
After your surgery, you’ll need post-operative care to ensure you heal comfortably and effectively. This includes medications, follow-up visits, and special care products, and can cost anywhere from as little as $200 to over $1,000.
Does Insurance Cover Rhinoplasty?
A huge factor in how much you pay has to do with insurance. In general, rhinoplasty isn’t covered by insurance since it’s considered a cosmetic procedure.
However, are you correcting something other than aesthetics, such as a deviated septum? Then your plan may partially or fully cover the surgery.
Cost Breakdown by Surgery Type
“Rhinoplasty” is a pretty broad term, and there are several subtypes your surgeon may deem optimal for your situation. We’ll discuss them below.
Open vs Closed Rhinoplasty
Surgeons can choose to use either an open or closed approach for your nose job. There’s more visibility and precision with an open rhinoplasty, which is why it’s more commonly used, but it’s more complicated and requires a longer healing period.
Since open rhinoplasty is more complex, expect it to cost more. In the US, open rhinoplasty will cost upwards of $9,000, while closed rhinoplasty usually costs under $7,500.
Septoplasty
Septoplasty isn’t technically a nose job and is separate from rhinoplasty, but many patients opt to get both done in one procedure known as septorhinoplasty. The septoplasty itself addresses functional issues that come from a deviated septum by straightening it, while a rhinoplasty addresses aesthetic problems.
In the US, you can expect to pay around $8,300 for septoplasty.
Ethnic Rhinoplasty
Ethnic rhinoplasty refers to nose jobs done specifically to retain the ethnic identities of patients. It’s mainly used for non-Caucasian people to avoid “cookie-cutter” noses amongst patients.
Ethnic rhinoplasty is pretty much the same as regular rhinoplasty, but surgeons must take extra care to help their patients maintain their ethnic identities. Because of this, the average price is slightly higher at around $7,800.
Alarplasty
Alarplasty is also known as alar base reduction, and it shrinks the alar (where your nostrils connect to your face) to give you less noticeable nostrils (not as flared). This is a smaller procedure, so the average cost is just under $3,000.
Tip-plasty
“Tip-plasty” is short for tip refinement rhinoplasty. The surgeon uses techniques that specifically reshape your nose tip, making it ideal for bulbous noses or droopy nose tips.
This type of nose job may require cartilage grafts or specialized suturing techniques. For this reason, the price is a little higher at around $8,200.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Revision rhinoplasty is basically more surgery after the initial nose job. Some patients aren’t 100% happy with the results from their first procedure, and so they book revision rhinoplasty to a better outcome.
This procedure is typically more expensive than the initial one since the surgeon needs to use more advanced techniques and take into consideration extra factors, such as scarring. So expect revision rhinoplasty to cost over $11,500.
Non-Surgical Nose Job
For less drastic results, and to avoid going under the knife, some patients opt for non-surgical nose jobs. This involves the use of fillers, which is why it’s also known as “filler nose jobs,” “liquid nose jobs,” or “15-minute nose jobs.”
Since these are quick and non-invasive procedures, non-surgical rhinoplasty is much cheaper. The average price is $1,500, although it can be as high as $5,500 depending on what type of filler and how much of it is used.
Plus, you need to consider that filler results aren’t permanent. To maintain your nose shape, you’ll have to keep up with injections. Depending on how long you do this, the costs can add up and be even more expensive than traditional rhinoplasty.
Know What to Expect for Your Rhinoplasty Cost
As you can see, there are many components involved in the total rhinoplasty cost. Each person’s situation will be unique, so while you can estimate costs ahead of time, there’s no guarantee the final price will be what you expect. But, one thing is for sure, heading south of the border to Mexico can allow you to get the nose surgery you’ve always dreamed of, at a fraction of the price of the same surgery in the US.
We always suggest that the best thing to do is to consult with a reputable surgeon for an estimate, and you can also talk with them to address any questions or concerns, you may have.
